Care South residents enjoy coffee morning

Care South residents enjoyed some festive entertainment and Christmas cheer during an annual coffee morning at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium.

A highlight of the year, residents from nine care homes in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and Ferndown, as well as some Home Care clients, were invited to the stadium where there was music from The Land Girls, and Christmas carols from the schoolchildren at Avonwood and Talbot primary schools.

The morning provided a great opportunity for the residents to socialise with people from different homes, the team from the AFCB Community Sports Trust, senior season ticket holders from the club, and the schoolchildren, plus a selection of football memorabilia to reminisce about. Residents were also given the chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at the stadium.

As well as the annual coffee morning, the six-year partnership sees the Trust come to Care South’s Dorset homes on a weekly basis to participate in activities and socialise with residents.

Care South chief executive, Simon Bird, said: “It was a wonderful morning for the residents, who loved their time at the stadium. Each year, the Trust goes above and beyond to put on a great event and this year was no exception. It was lovely to see our residents chatting with the schoolchildren, and then the children singing Christmas carols.

“AFC Bournemouth is a very special football club, which really does sit at the heart of the local community, and we are delighted that this partnership is such a success. The Community Sports Trust really does make a huge difference to the lives of so many residents.”

Head of Community Sports Trust, Steve Cuss, added: “It’s a really good, strong relationship we have with Care South and we are very proud to have such a great partnership.

“We loved chatting with the residents and it was a pleasure to welcome them to the Vitality Stadium. Special events like these provide a good opportunity for residents to come out of their normal environment, socialise and reminisce.”
