AFC Bournemouth were pleased to host another BU Big Match at Vitality Stadium on Sunday 24 March as the women’s team took on Keynsham Town Ladies in the National League.

Bournemouth University has been an official partner of AFC Bournemouth for 11 years, and is the Principal Partner of the club’s women’s and girls’ teams. The match last weekend was a dedicated game where the long-standing partnership was celebrated.

The university has been a part of the journey which has seen the women’s set up grow over the years, with over 6,000 fans coming along to Vitality Stadium to watch Steve Cuss’ side for the second time this season.

As part of the dedicated matchday, the official higher education partner supported our pre-match entertainment, including activities in the Junior Fanzone as well as the BU Falcons cheerleaders returning to put on a spectacle ahead of the teams walking out.

The theme of this BU Big Match was collaboration, with BU and AFC Bournemouth working together on a number of different projects, also offering opportunities to students.

In addition, we celebrated the BU graduates and placement students who currently work at the club, more of which can be read about here.

AFC Bournemouth’s women’s players Katie Scadding and Abby Jones were also highlighted in the theme of collaboration, as the pair have extended their passion for football to coaching, taking charge of BU’s women’s team.

Nathaniel Hobby, Communications Manager at BU and a member of the partnership steering group, said: “We were pleased to celebrate our partnership with AFC Bournemouth, and it was great to see so many staff and students cheering on the women’s team. We’re especially grateful for all the opportunities to engage BU students as a part of the matchday activity and will look forward to cheering the team on for the rest of the season.”

Members from the BU women’s football team were invited to come along to the match where they supported their coaches and spoke to afcbTV at half-time about their experience.

It was a great day and we would like to extend our thanks to Bournemouth University for their ongoing support.
