Worthington completes Yeovil move

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Matt Worthington has today completed a permanent move to League Two outfit Yeovil Town, subject to EFL approval.

Worthington has joined the Glovers on a free transfer after agreeing terms on a two-and-a-half year deal at Huish Park.

The 21-year-old, who progressed through the ranks at AFC Bournemouth, enjoyed a fruitful 19-game loan spell at Yeovil during the first half of last season.

Worthington recently returned to Vitality Stadium after spending four months on loan to Yeovil’s League Two rivals Forest Green Rovers.

He made 14 appearances in all competitions for Rovers, netting his maiden goal in the Football League in their 3-1 win at Cambridge United in October.

Southampton-born Worthington became the second AFC Bournemouth academy graduate to make their Premier League debut for the club in May 2017.

He came on as a 74th-minute replacement for Ryan Fraser in the Cherries’ 1-1 draw at Leicester on the final day of the season, following in the footsteps of Baily Cargill, who made his top-flight bow against Manchester United at Old Trafford in March 2017.

Worthington’s former Cherries team-mate Alex Dobre is currently on loan at Yeovil and the pair could feature in their crucial League Two clash with fellow strugglers Notts County at Huish Park tomorrow.

The Glovers are six points ahead of bottom-placed County and three in front of Macclesfield Town who currently occupy the second relegation spot.
