Woodgate appointed to coaching staff

Former Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate has joined the AFC Bournemouth coaching staff as the club's senior first team coach until the end of the season.

The 41-year-old led his hometown Boro last season in the Championship and comes into the Cherries' coaching department following the departure of Graeme Jones to Newcastle United.

Prior to stepping into the management role with Middlesbrough, Woodgate had two separate spells as the club's assistant manager, working under Steve Agnew and Tony Pulis, and also worked in the club's academy as assistant coach in the under-18s squad.

Woodgate's time in coaching followed a glittering playing career that saw the defender represent Leeds United, Newcastle United, Real Madrid, Middlesbrough, Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City, winning eight senior England caps and lifting the League Cup in 2008.
