Smith nominated for Goal of the Month

AFC Bournemouth defender Adam Smith has been nominated for the Premier League's Goal of the Month award.

The defender netted a powerful strike at home to Newcastle last week, as the Cherries came from 2-0 down to secure a point, with the 26-year-old's shot flying beyond Martin Dubravka from outside the area.

Following the goal, Smith dedicated his goal to lifelong friend and former Tottenham teammate Ryan Mason, who was recently forced to retire after a head injury last year.

February could be the third month this year that a Cherries player has won the accolade, with Charlie Daniels' strike against Manchester City winning the August award and Jermain Defoe's effort at Palace scooping the prize for December.

Smith is nominated for the award alongside Mario Lemina, Jose Izquierdo, Danilo, Victor Wanyama, Mo Salah and Sergio Aguero.
