Sherring extends Torquay stay

Sam Sherring has extended his loan move with Torquay United and will stay with the National League side until the end of the current campaign.

Ahead of confirming the extension the defender has also penned a new one-year contract with AFC Bournemouth.

The defender has been a mainstay for Gary Johnson's Gulls this season, the side having soared to the summit of the division where they currently hold an eight-point lead over second-place Hartlepool United.

Sherring has been a major factor in the side's success so far, making 17 appearances and scoring twice as United target a return to the Football League after suffering relegation back in 2014.

Now 20, Sherring joined the Cherries as a seven-year-old and has worked his way through the club's academy system.

He previously also made 37 league and cup appearances during a loan spell with Weymouth, when they became Southern League champions in 2018/19.
