AFC Bournemouth defender Sam Sherring has joined Accrington Stanley on a season-long loan.

Sherring could be in line to make his debut for the League One outfit when they face Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

John Coleman’s team are currently seventh having beaten Cambridge United and Doncaster Rovers in their past two games.

Sherring, who started the season training with Scott Parker’s first-team squad, will link up with former Cherries team-mate Matt Butcher at the Crown Ground.

The 21-year-old progressed through the Cherries academy ranks with Butcher who has netted twice for Accy this season, including a stunning opener in their win against Cambridge.

Sherring made 49 appearances during a fruitful loan spell with Torquay United last season, his exploits helping the Gulls qualify for the National League play-offs.

He was a mainstay of the Torquay defence as they finished the regulation season as runners-up to Sutton United having led the table for the majority of the campaign.

Sherring also chipped in with three goals, including a dramatic late winner at Wrexham in April, and was named in league sponsors Vanarama’s team of the season.

His progress through the ranks at Vitality Stadium has also included two loan spells at Weymouth, the Dorchester-born defender helping the Terras to back-to-back promotions from the Southern League to the National League.
