Jake Scrimshaw has joined League Two promotion hopefuls Newport County on loan for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance.

Striker Scrimshaw spent the first half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan to Newport’s League Two rivals Walsall.

The 20-year-old netted twice in 16 appearances for the Saddlers, his goals coming during an eventful 4-3 win over Port Vale last month.

As well as registering his first goals, Scrimshaw also brought up another memorable milestone when he was handed his Football League debut by Walsall.

During his stay in the West Midlands, Scrimshaw impressed Newport manager Mike Flynn when he lined up against them in a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade in November.

The Exiles are currently second in League Two, just a point behind Carlisle United but with a game in hand on the leaders

Scrimshaw is ineligible for their FA Cup third-round clash with Brighton as he played in Walsall’s first-round defeat by Bristol Rovers in November.

Isle of Wight-born Scrimshaw made nine appearances in the National League with Eastleigh last season and enjoyed a productive loan spell with Poole Town in 2018/19 when he finished as their leading goalscorer.
