Players set for international action

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Following the weekend’s narrow Premier League defeat against Manchester City, a number of AFC Bournemouth’s players have now departed ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.

Jermain Defoe could become the first Cherries player to earn a full senior England cap whilst at the club.

The striker has linked up with the Three Lions squad ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Malta (Friday 1st September) and Slovakia (Monday 4th September).

Lewis Cook has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the first time and could feature in the two UEFA European Championship qualifiers against the Netherlands and Latvia.

The game against Latvia takes place at Vitality Stadium on Tuesday 5th September, kick off 7.45pm. Click here to buy tickets for the game.

Aaron Ramsdale is the final Cherries player set for international action with the Three Lions, after being included in the England Under-20 squad for games against the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Nathan Ake had been called up to the Netherlands squad by boss Dick Advocaat, but after a slight a slight knock sustained against Manchester City has since been forced to withdrawn. Stoke City’s Bruno Martins Indi has been named as his replacement.

Harry Arter is once again part of the Republic of Ireland squad for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Serbia whilst Asmir Begovic could feature for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Cyprus and Gibraltar.

Joshua King has been included in the Norway squad, as they prepare to face Azerbaijan and Germany, with Ryan Fraser in line to feature for Scotland against Lithuania and Malta.

Further afield, Benik Afobe could be set for another DR Congo appearance after being named in their squad ahead of a World Cup qualifying double-header against Tunisia.

Brad Smith and Adam Federici once again form part of the Australia squad for World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand.

At under-21 level, Lys Mousset (France), Joe Quigley (Republic of Ireland) and Mihai Dobre (Romania) have all also been handed call ups.
