Obituary: Wayne Talkes

AFC Bournemouth were saddened to hear of the passing of Wayne Talkes who had a brief playing spell with the club in the 1970s.

Wayne made seven appearances for the Cherries in 1974/75, five in Division Three and two in the League Cup.

Born in Ealing in 1952, Wayne joined the Cherries from Southampton but his playing career was cut short by an ankle injury he sustained during a 1-0 defeat by Grimsby in October 1974.

As a youngster, he captained the Isle of Wight boys’ team and played for Bembridge Youth Club.

He signed apprentice forms with Southampton in 1967 and made his first-team debut under Lawrie McMenemy in 1972.

After leaving AFC Bournemouth, Wayne played for Totton and also managed in non-league.

The club would like to offer sincere condolences to Wayne’s family and friends.
