Moriah-Welsh makes first international start

Nathan Moriah-Welsh made his first international start early on Sunday morning, but a first-half red card saw Guyana exit qualification for the CONCACAF Gold Cup after a 4-0 defeat.

Taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Guyana lined up against Guatemala, with the winner to face Guadeloupe in the final qualifying match this week ahead of the final tournament, which starts later this month in the USA.

After a speedy opening with both sides looking to attack, Guatemala took the lead through a Reiss Greenidge own goal and while Guayana looked to respond their task was made more difficult when Wrexham winger Keanu Marsh-Brown received a straight red card after just 40 minutes.

Ten minutes after the restart, Luis Martinez made it two for Guatemala and despite chances for Guyana for Emery Welshman and Omari Glasgow, Guyana were unable to register.

Winning his fourth international cap, Moriah-Welsh was replaced by Javier George in the 62nd minute.

In the closing stages Guatemala struck twice more to put a gloss on the scoreline, Darwin Lom and Jose Carlos Martinez netting.

The result ends Guyana and Moriah-Welsh's participation in the Gold Cup, with the midfielder now to return to the UK to join pre-season with the Cherries.
