Mepham at Wembley & play-off pain

Chris Mepham played in Wales' match at Wembley on Thursday, while there were three separate doses of Cherries Euro 2021 play-off heartache elsewhere.

Defender Mepham saw a header saved by Nick Pope in the first half of the 3-0 friendly defeat, the Cherries man playing 90 minutes in a match which saw former Bournemouth striker Danny Ings net his first England goal.

Mepham received treatment for an injury late in preceedings but returned to the action to complete the game.

In Oslo, Joshua King appeared from the bench just past the hour mark in Norway's Euro 2021 play-off with Serbia, however his national side were knocked out after extra time by a brace from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Lazio midfielder fired Serbia into a lead in the final ten minutes, but Norway struck back six minutes later through Mathias Normann to send the game to an extra half an hour. However, Milinkovic-Savic's second in the 102nd minute was enough to eliminate King's side.

Mark Travers was an unused substitute as the Republic of Ireland exited Euro 2021 after a penalty shootout in Slovakia.

The game finished goalless after 120 minutes, with the Irish bowing out after a 4-2 defeat on spot kicks.

Northern Ireland did make it through to the finals of their play-off route, but at the expense of Asmir Begovic's Bosnia and Herzegovina in Grbavica.

Begovic was on the bench throughout as the game went to penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time, Northern Ireland going through with a 4-3 shootout victory.
