Luke helps Sports see off Oxford City

Luke Nippard played his part as Eastbourne Borough registered a 2-0 win over National South high-fliers Oxford City at the Velocity Stadium.

Nippard made his second appearance for Eastbourne, his vital clearance early in the second half helping preserve their 2-0 lead.

He was in the right place at the right time to intercept Josh Ashby’s dangerous ball into the six-yard box which Lewis Coyle had looked destined to tap home.

The Sports, playing their first competitive game for 21 days, took the lead through Charlie Kendall in the ninth minute, the same player adding a second on the stroke of half-time.

Nippard and his team-mates defended well to restrict Oxford City after the break, with Eastbourne goalkeeper Lee Worgan making a couple of fine saves.

Euan Pollock looked on from the bench as Hungerford Town suffered a 2-1 defeat against Tonbridge Angels at Longmead.

Jake Evans drew first blood for Hungerford before Luke Cairney saved Joe Turner’s penalty after the visitors had been reduced to ten men with Louis McGrory seeing red for a second yellow card.

Substitute Tommy Wood came off the bench to score twice inside the final four minutes to turn the game on its head for the Angels.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Ryan Glover was in the thick of the action as Aldershot Town shared the spoils from a 1-1 draw with Maidenhead United at the EBB Stadium

Glover went close to marking his 14th appearance for the Shots with a goal, only to be denied by an outstanding save from Maidenhead goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai in the 15th minute.

And after Toby Edser had come off the bench to cancel out Josh Kelly’s deflected opening goal for the visitors, Glover almost set up Josh Fawole for the winner.

Some great work by Glover on the right-hand side ended with him picking out Fawole in the 18-yard box, his effort bouncing off the outside of the post.
