Loan Watch: Zeno off the mark for Killie

Zeno Ibsen Rossi netted his first career goal as Kilmarnock exited the Scottish Cup following a quarter-final thriller against St Mirren at Rugby Park on Monday.

Ibsen Rossi outjumped the St Mirren defence to meet a Chris Burke corner with a powerful header to restore parity in the 37th minute.

The 20-year-old’s effort cancelled out the Buddies’ 25th-minute opener after a cross from Ilkay Durmus had squirmed through the grasp of Killie goalkeeper Colin Doyle.

Killie edged ahead on the stroke of half-time when George Oakley squared for Greg Kiltie to make it 2-1.

Oakley and Kiltie both had chances to extend the hosts’ lead before Joe Shaughnessy levelled in the 84th minute to take the tie into extra-time.

Killie, having used all their substitutes, were forced to play a large part of the additional time with ten men after Nicke Kabamba hobbled off injured.

Referee Don Robertson pointed to the spot after Brandon Haunstrup had been felled by Kyle McAllister, Ross Millen scoring the resultant penalty 11 minutes into extra-time.

Killie were infuriated by Robertson’s decision to award St Mirren a penalty after Jake Doyle-Hayes had gone to ground under a challenge from Doyle in the closing stages.

Jamie McGrath stroked home the spot kick to take the tie to penalties with Killie’s Rory McKenzie the only player not to score in the shootout as St Mirren triumphed 5-4.

The Paisley outfit will face League Cup winners St Johnstone in the last four at Hampden next month with Dundee United meeting Hibernian in the other semi-final.
