Loan watch: Wins for Arter and Mahoney

Harry Arter struck the post for Cardiff City during their thrilling 2-1 Premier League victory over Wolves on Friday evening.

Arter, who started the game, twice came close to scoring, cracking a powerful volley against the post before then seeing a low effort deflect inches wide of the post.

Cardiff would eventually go on to win the game through Junior Hoilett’s stunning goal 13 minutes from time, with Arter substituted off on 76 minutes.

Connor Mahoney and Birmingham City maintained their fine form in the Sky Bet Championship at the weekend.

The Blues have now lost just two of their last 16 league games and continued their upwards trajectory with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday.

On-loan Mahoney started the game at St Andrew’s before being substituted in the 74th minute.

Sam Surridge was in action for Oldham, who progressed to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time since 2013 following victory over Maidstone United.

Surridge, who played the full game, had a second-half header cleared off the line during the 2-0 win at Gallagher Stadium.

Jake Scrimshaw appeared as a substitute for Poole Town in their 1-1 draw away at Frome Town in the Southern League Premier.

Mikael Ndjoli was an unused substitute for Kilmarnock in their 3-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Hibernian at Easter Road.
