Loan Watch: Tyler's frustration over draw

Tyler Cordner helped Southend United keep a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw with League Two rivals Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

But the 22-year-old was frustrated it only secured a share of the points for the Shrimpers who slipped back into the relegation zone following Barrow’s win against Mansfield.

Defender Cordner made his fifth appearance for Mark Molesley’s team having been recalled to the starting line-up for the 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham in midweek.

His Cherries team-mate Kyle Taylor made his 22nd appearance for Southend and was replaced by Greg Halford in the 72nd minute.

Cordner told the Southend Echo: “It was very disappointing and we feel like it was two points dropped.

“We had the better chances and I’m not sure they really had any clear-cut chances other than maybe one header from a cross which we should have dealt with better.

“But we hit the bar and had the better chances. On another day they go in and we win 2-0 or 3-0. We have to get points in games like this and it was a big two points missed.”

Southend twice hit the woodwork through Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Emile Acquah, while Oldham parted company with boss Harry Kewell on Sunday.

Jake Scrimshaw replaced Padraig Amond in injury time as Newport County climbed back into the play-off zone thanks to a 2-0 win at Colchester United.

The Exiles triumphed courtesy of goals from Joss Labadie and Amond while Colchester’s former Newport player Frank Nouble was sent off after picking up two second yellow cards.

Frank Vincent looked on from the bench as Walsall suffered a 1-0 defeat at high-flying Cambridge United where Paul Mullin bagged the only goal in added time.

SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP

Zeno Ibsen Rossi was an unused substitute as Kilmarnock slipped to the foot of the table after going down 3-2 against Ross County at Victoria Park.

Kyle Lafferty scored twice for Killie, his second from the penalty spot, the visitors having Ross Millen sent off in the closing stages.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Brennan Camp played his part as Weymouth recorded a league double over Stockport County after triumphing 1-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Camp made his 20th appearance for the Terras as they added to their 2-1 win over promotion-chasing County at Edgeley Park at the end of October.

Andrew Dallas’s seventh goal of the season in the fourth minute was enough to lift Weymouth out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Stockport, who remained in fourth place, had two efforts cleared off the line while Weymouth goalkeeper Ethan Ross denied James Jennings with a top-drawer save in the second half.

Sam Sherring got another 90 minutes under his belt as leaders Torquay United were beaten 1-0 by fellow promotion hopefuls Hartlepool at Plainmoor.

Luke Molyneux settled the issue in favour of the visitors when he netted the only goal in the 14th minute with victory taking Pools into second place, level on 47 points with the Gulls.
