Loan Watch: Travers stars on debut

Goalkeeper Mark Travers made an immediate impression during his loan spell with Swindon Town by helping them to their first victory over Ipswich Town in 30 years.

Travers, signed on the eve of the Portman Road clash, was one of seven changes to the Swindon starting line-up with Brentford loanee Dom Thompson also handed a debut.

John Sheridan’s team started in the bottom four having taken just one point from their previous six games, while Ipswich were hoping to climb into the top four in League One.

However, the Robins stunned the Tractor Boys by triumphing 3-2 thanks to two goals from former Norwich winger Diallang Jaiyesimi and a wonder strike from Scott Twine.

Jaiyesimi drew first blood in the 16th minute when he powered home a header from Thompson’s pinpoint cross from the left wing.

Travers preserved their lead when he took centre stage by denying Alan Judge after the Ipswich man had gone clear on goal in the 32nd minute.

Picked out by Andre Dozzell’s perfectly-weighted chip, Judge looked certain to level before Travers spread himself and diverted the ball for a corner.

Judge then hit the post before the hosts drew level in the second half when James Norwood profited from a fortunate ricochet off Paul Caddis in the 62nd minute.

Swindon regained the lead when Twine netted from 30 yards and Jaiyesimi added a third when his cross looped into the back of the net.

Judge set up a grandstand finish when he scored from close range three minutes from time but the visitors held on for a deserved victory.
