Loan watch: Surridge double helps Swans progress

Swansea maintained their unbeaten start under Steve Cooper, with a 6-0 thrashing of Cambridge in last night’s Carabao Cup tie.

Cherries loanee Sam Surridge played 90 minutes and bagged himself a brace at the Liberty Stadium, with a trip to Watford next up for the Swans in round three.

Kristoffer Peterson and George Byers got the Welsh outfit off to a flying start, putting them 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, before it was Surridge’s turn to get in on the action.

Peterson was again involved, beating his man on the left and crossing a low ball into the box, the Bournemouth youngster then pouncing on a deflection and poking home yards out.

Jordan Garrick then added a fourth for the hosts, with Surridge’s second of the evening, and Swansea’s fifth coming seconds before the interval.

A lovely one-two with George Byers put the 21-year-old through on goal, with the powerful shot at the near post too strong for Cambridge ‘keeper Callum Burton.

Wayne Routledge rounded off the scoring in the second half to cap off a fine performance for Steve Cooper’s side and send them through to the next round.

For Surridge, he now has three goals in five appearances in South Wales, with a trip to Leeds next up in the league.

Elsewhere in the Carabao Cup, Harry Arter didn’t feature in Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton.
