Loan watch: Sherring's Gulls continue surge

Sam Sherring played 90 minutes as Torquay United welcomed fans back to Plainmoor and maintained their promotion push from the National League.

Former Cherries forward Ben Whitfield opened the scoring for the Gulls as they hosted mid-table Wrexham, running out eventual 3-1 winners in Devon.

The win leaves Sherring - who has started all 11 matches for the league leaders this season - and his side two points clear of second-place Sutton United, who they also have a game in hand over, and eight points clear of third.

Jake Scrimshaw was a late substitute for Walsall as the League Two outfit picked up an important away win at Tranmere.

The Cherries striker came on for his ninth EFL appearance with the Saddlers winning 3-1 away at the play-off chasing Rovers, Walsall now up to 14th in the table.

Corey Jordan and Brennan Camp were both starters for Weymouth in the National League, but it was a day to forget for the Terras in front of the returning fans at the Bob Lucas Stadium

Two goals down at half time, former Cherries man Josh McQuid pulled one back for the hosts against Halifax Town, but there was to be not comeback with the Shayman running out eventual 5-1 winners.

The result leaves Brian Stock's side third bottom in the table, two points behind Barnet in the first position of safety.

However, after a pause due to positive Covid-19 tests in the squad, they have a game or two in hand over the majority of the teams around them, next hosting Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday evening.
