Jake Scrimshaw got another 90 minutes under his belt in Scunthorpe United’s 3-1 defeat by League Two rivals Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
Scrimshaw made his 15th appearance in all competitions for the Iron and went close to grabbing a fourth goal for the club.
With the clash delicately poised at 1-1, the striker outmuscled Stags defender John-Joe O’Toole before firing narrowly past the upright with a right-footed effort.
Earlier, Myles Hippolyte’s 15th-minute penalty for the Iron had been cancelled out by Mansfield skipper Ollie Clarke midway through the first half.
The Stags forged ahead through Jordan Bowery in first-half stoppage-time before Clarke added his second and the hosts’ third on the hour.
Scrimshaw will be hoping for more game time when Scunthorpe host high-flying Leyton Orient at the Sands Venue Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).
SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH
Euan Pollock played his part as Truro City continued their pursuit of a play-off place by triumphing 1-0 against struggling Kings Langley at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium.
Pollock kept his place in the White Tigers starting line-up having impressed during their 1-1 draw against Swindon Supermarine at Bolitho Park on Tuesday.
The teenage striker was replaced by Rocky Neal seven minutes into the second half, Neal netting the only goal to earn Paul Wotton’s team a third successive away win.
Brooklyn Genesini looked on from the bench as Poole Town shared the points from a 0-0 draw with Chesham United at the Black Gold Stadium.
Genesini and Pollock are both expected to feature when AFC Bournemouth meet Southampton in the Premier League Cup at AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium on Wednesday (7pm kick-off).
The 19-year-old made his tenth start for the Dolphins in their 2-1 defeat at Yate Town on Tuesday but sat out against Chesham who had Eoin Casey sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the closing stages.
