Loan watch: Sam's flying with the Gulls

Sam Sherring turned in another assured display to help Torquay United maintain their impressive start to the National League season.

Sherring made his third appearance for the Gulls as they came from behind to triumph 2-1 against Bromley at Hayes Lane.

The 20-year-old defender has started in wins against Stockport and Bromley as Gary Johnson’s team have climbed to seventh in the table. Sherring also scored in their 2-1 defeat at Eastleigh in midweek.

Torquay fell behind on Saturday when former Millwall and Yeovil defender Byron Webster opened the scoring for the hosts in the 18th minute.

But a moment of magic from Plymouth Argyle loanee Adam Randell restored parity for the visitors 16 minutes into the second half.

Teed up by Ben Wynter, Randell took a touch before despatching an unstoppable 25-yard thunderbolt past Bromley goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

Torquay were rewarded for their persistence when they won a penalty three minutes into added time with Danny Wright making no mistake from the spot.

Brennan Camp made his third start of the season in Weymouth’s 1-0 defeat by Sutton United at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Will Randall’s goal nine minutes from time ensured Sutton maintained their perfect start and left the Terras still searching for their first win.

LEAGUE TWO

Kyle Taylor made his third appearance for Southend United as Mark Molesley’s team were denied a first win of the campaign by a dramatic last-gasp Exeter City leveller.

The Shrimpers appeared to be heading for victory as they led 2-1 deep into added time thanks to Brandon Goodship’s goal and a Jason Demetriou penalty.

But Alex Fisher came off the bench to silence the Roots Hall faithful when he netted a stunning equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Ex-Cherries striker Goodship broke the deadlock with a thunderous 20-yard drive in the 26th minute, only for the Grecians to draw level through Joel Randall five minutes before the break.

Demetriou restored the hosts’ lead from the spot after Tottenham loanee Kazaiah Sterling had been felled before substitute Fisher had the final say when he rifled home from 25 yards.

Tyler Cordner and Frank Vincent both featured for Scunthorpe United as they surrendered the lead and went down 4-1 against Forest Green Rovers.

Midfielder Vincent provided the assist for Aaron Jarvis to give the hosts a ninth-minute lead at The Sands Venue Stadium.

But Rovers reached the break leading 2-1 thanks to two close-range finishes from striker Jamille Matt.

Vincent was replaced by John McAtee in the 62nd minute before Matt completed his hat-trick seven minutes from time and Matt Stevens added a fourth in injury time.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE SOUTH

Ben Greenwood and Christian Saydee both played a part in Poole Town’s eventful 2-2 draw with Salisbury at the Ray Mac Stadium.

Greenwood supplied the assist for Jamie Whisken to give the Dolphins an early lead before Tony Lee’s penalty made it 2-0 to the visitors.

However, second-half goals from Poole old boys Harry Baker and Marvin Brooks earned Steve Claridge’s team a share of the points.

Saydee gave the Salisbury defence plenty to think about during an impressive display, while Greenwood, who was replaced by Dave Jerrard in the 72nd minute, also turned in an accomplished performance.
