Loan watch: Sam off mark in Championship

Sam Surridge netted his first goal in the Championship as Swansea City climbed to second place with an impressive 3-1 win at Queens Park Rangers last night.

The striker replaced Borja after 77 minutes and headed home a cross from Andre Ayew to complete the scoring just three minutes later at Loftus Road.

It was the 23rd goal of Surridge’s professional career, the 21-year-old having enjoyed fruitful loan spells in League Two with both Yeovil and Oldham.

Ferndown-raised Surridge, who also had a productive loan stay with Poole Town in National South in 2016/17, has made three substitute appearances in the Championship for the Swans and started their Carabao Cup first-round win against Northampton.

Bersant Celina gave Swansea the lead after 29 minutes before Jordan Hugill equalised for QPR who introduced former Cherries star Marc Pugh as a second-half substitute.

Swansea regained the lead from the penalty spot when Borja registered his fourth goal of the season before Surridge connected with Ayew’s cross to make the game safe.

Harry Arter maintained his 100 per cent winning record with Fulham as they demolished London rivals Millwall 4-0 at Craven Cottage.

Ivan Cavaleiro’s double, Brighton loanee Anthony Knockaert’s first goal for the club and an Aleksandar Mitrovic penalty did the damage for the Cottagers.

Since signing earlier this month, Arter has started Fulham’s past three games in the Championship – wins over Blackburn, Huddersfield and the Lions.

The Cottagers – who enjoyed a remarkable 84.5 per cent possession – climbed to third, a point behind leaders Leeds and second-placed Swansea.
