AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings bagged his first goal in almost four years to spark a dramatic comeback in Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw with Sheffield United on Friday.

The Blades appeared to be on course to be heading back to the top of the Championship table after Billy Sharp’s hat-trick had put them 3-0 in front at Villa Park.

But Mings, making his second appearance for the Villans, reduced the arrears when he headed home Conor Hourihane’s corner with just eight minutes remaining.

It was the 25-year-old’s second goal of his professional career, his first coming for Ipswich in a 4-2 win over Birmingham at Portman Road in February 2015.

Tammy Abraham struck for the eighth successive home game to make it 3-2 just four minutes later before substitute Andre Green popped up with an injury-time header to seal the fightback.

The Villa Park faithful have now witnessed 67 goals in just 16 home games in the Championship this season, including a 5-5 draw against Nottingham Forest in November.

Midfielder Harry Arter played a starring role as Cardiff City moved out of the Premier League relegation zone thanks to a 2-1 win at Southampton.

Arter made his 21st top-flight appearance for the Bluebirds as Sol Bamba’s opener and Kenneth Zohore’s stoppage-time winner earned the visitors all three points on an emotional afternoon for the Welsh side, who continued to mourn the death of record signing Emiliano Sala.

Marc Pugh was a 75th-minute substitute in Hull City’s 2-0 defeat at Derby in the Championship, while Connor Mahoney looked on from the bench as Birmingham triumphed 4-3 at QPR.

Aaron Ramsdale made his seventh appearance for AFC Wimbledon as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of League One rivals Burton Albion, while Alex Dobre was replaced after 77 minutes in Yeovil’s 3-1 reverse by Grimsby in League Two.

Jermain Defoe was replaced four minutes from time by Kyle Lafferty during Rangers’ 0-0 draw at Kilmarnock in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Gers’ James Tavernier had a penalty saved by Killie goalkeeper Dan Bachman and Defoe drove a shot across goal as the visitors dominated the second half.

Charlie Seaman made his third appearance for Scottish Championship club Dundee United as they booked a place in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win against Premiership strugglers St Mirren at the Simple Digital Arena.

Seaman helped the Tangerines reach the last eight for the first time in three years thanks to goals from Pavol Safranko and Nicky Clark. His Cherries teammate Jordan Holmes was an unused substitute for the Saints.

Tyler Cordner turned in another eye-catching display as Havant & Waterlooville held National League high-fliers Gateshead to a 0-0 draw, while Corey Jordan played 90 minutes in Eastbourne Borough’s 2-2 draw with National League South rivals Oxford City.

Jake Scrimshaw, a hero of the Cherries’ run to the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup, continued his goalscoring exploits with Poole Town.

His late equaliser – his 12th goal for the Dolphins – earned them a 1-1 draw at Swindon Supermarine as Poole climbed into the Southern Premier League South play-off places.

Scrimshaw was also named man of the match by Poole fans, while his Cherries teammate James Boote was an unused substitute at the Webbswood Stadium.

Under-18 skipper Brennan Camp received the Dorchester Town supporters’ club player-of-the-month award for January ahead of their 3-2 win over Harrow Borough in Southern Premier League South.

Sam Sherring and Luke Nippard both featured as late substitutes in Weymouth’s eventful 4-4 draw with Metropolitan Police in Southern Premier League South.

Sherring came off the bench in the 80th minute and Nippard in injury-time as the Terras surrendered the lead on four occasions at Imber Court.

Brad Smith featured for Seattle Sounders in their 3-2 defeat by Houston Dynamo in the annual Mobile Mini Sun Cup in Arizona.
