Harry Arter’s hopes of featuring in a fourth successive victory for Fulham in the Championship were scuppered by his former Cherries team-mate Lewis Grabban.

Striker Grabban netted a goal in each half as Nottingham Forest chalked up a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage, with Arter playing the full 90 minutes for the Cottagers.

Grabban volleyed home a fourth-minute opener and doubled Forest’s lead in the second half before Aleksandar Mitrovic halved the deficit late on.

Sam Surridge was an unused substitute as Swansea City continued their impressive start to the season by triumphing 3-0 against Championship rivals Birmingham City.

Surridge, who netted his first goal for the Swans in their midweek win at QPR, looked on as goals from Kyle Naughton and Bersant Celina and a Borja penalty – all in the space of 12 second-half minutes – made it 13 points from a possible 15 in 2019/20.

Mikael Ndjoli went close to rescuing a point for Gillingham after coming off the bench in their 1-0 defeat by League One high-fliers Coventry.

Ndjoli, on as a 31st-minute replacement for Regan Charles-Cook, was denied by a superb save from Sky Blues goalkeeper Marko Marosi after letting fly with a fierce right-foot shot 14 minutes from time.

Ndjoli also had a couple of chances in the first half as Dominic Hyam’s 26th-minute goal proved the difference between the sides at St Andrew’s.

Jermain Defoe went close to opening the scoring in Rangers’s 1-0 victory at St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

Defoe fired wide from eight yards having been put through by Scott Arfield’s pass in the third minute at St Mirren Park.

Borna Barisic netted the only goal after 59 minutes as Steven Gerrard’s team overcame stubborn opposition with Defoe replaced by Alfredo Morelos 15 minutes from time.

Emerson Hyndman came off the bench in Atlanta United’s 1-0 win at Orlando City in Major League Soccer.

He replaced Darlington Nagbe just seconds after Josef Martinez had scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute.

Frank Vincent came off the bench for Torquay as they maintained their impressive start in the National League by recording a 2-0 win over Aldershot.

Vincent replaced Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala 17 minutes from time at Plainmoor and after goals from Jamie Reid and Opi Edwards had put the Gulls ahead. Torquay visit Barnet today (3pm kick-off).

Calum Ward and Sam Sherring both started for Weymouth as they went down 1-0 at Chippenham, the Terras’ first defeat of the season in National South.

Chris Zebroski’s first-half goal settled the issue in favour of the hosts at Hardenhuish Park with Mark Molesley’s team hosting leaders Wealdstone today (3pm kick-off).

Jake Cope was a late substitute in Poole Town’s 1-1 draw against Weston-super-Mare in Southern League South.

He replaced Josh Leslie-Smith in the 84th minute and after Ollie Dennett had levelled for the Dolphins, the Havant & Waterlooville loan striker netting his fourth goal in as many games.

Cope could face Cherries teammate Cameron Plain when Poole do battle with Wimborne at the Black Gold Stadium today (3pm kick-off).

Goalkeeper Plain made a string of fine saves for the Magpies but was powerless to prevent Taunton running out 3-0 winners at Cuthbury.
