AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

While the majority of the attention was on the Premier League opener, this weekend has seen some impressive performances from our loanees in the EFL.

Five of the Cherries’ loanees were in action in the EFL and National League. Here’s how they got on:

Lewis Grabban (Sunderland)

Lewis Grabban played 87 minutes for Sunderland as they beat Norwich City 3-1. He scored the match opener in the 27th minute when he latched onto James Vaughan’s flick on, then got his second of the game when he nodded in a James McGeady cross, after McGeady had scored Sunderland’s second. It didn’t all go Grabban’s way though, as he scored an own goal to bring it back to 3-1 before being replaced by John O’Shea late on.

Ryan Allsop (Blackpool)

The 25-year-old goalkeeper got his first clean sheet of the season as Blackpool earned a 1-0 win over MK Dons. Allsop played the full game, as a Sean Longstaff’s goal got the Tangerines their first win of the season.

Ben Whitfield (Port Vale)

His side lost 3-2 to Wycombe Wanderers, but Ben Whitfield can be very pleased with his personal contribution. He replaced Cristian Montaño in the 79th minute of the match with Vale 3-0 down. After Dan Turner had pulled a goal back in the 88th minute Ben Whitfield used his skill to beat two men and then went on to smash the ball into the top corner.

Sam Surridge (Yeovil Town)

The 19-year-old came on for the last 10 minutes as Yeovil Town got their first win of the season, beating Accrington Stanley 3-2.

Sam Matthews (Eastleigh)

Eastleigh drew 2-2 against Dagenham & Redbridge with Sam Matthews coming on in the 81st minute.

Jordan Lee (Torquay United)

Jordan wasn’t involved this weekend, with Torquay losing 3-0 to Gateshead.

Mark Travers (Weymouth)

Mark wasn’t involved as Wemouth lost 1-0 to St Ives Town.
