Jefferson Lerma's Colombia started their bid for 2022 World Cup qualification with a rampant 3-0 win over Venezuela.

The Bournemouth midfielder started and played the full 90 minutes in Barranquilla as Los Cafeteros began South American qualification with a win after a goal-laden first half that put the game to bed.

Behind closed doors, Duvan Zapata scored from Juan Cuadrado's centre inside 16 minutes before a double from Luis Muriel ahead of the break concluded the scoring.

There are ten teams vying for four CONMEBOL qualification spots for the World Cup in Qatar, Lerma's side joining Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina as the first round's winners, Peru and Paraguay playing out a draw.

Colombia next travel to Santiago to face the stiffer test of Chile in the second qualifier, the game kicking-off at 1.30am (GMT) on Wednesday.
