Kelly called up for England U21s

Lloyd Kelly has been called up to the England under-21s squad for the upcoming international break.

The defender, who has so far earned eight caps for the England under-21s, could potentially play three matches for Aidy Boothroyd's side.

The games over this break comprise the group stage of the 2021 UEFA European U21 Championship, which is being co-hosted by Hungary and Slovenia.

England will play all of their games in Slovenia and first take on Switzerland on Thursday 25th March in Koper, before moving to the capital Ljubljana to play Portugal on Sunday 28th March.

Kelly and the side will then round off their group stage fixtures back in Koper where they face Croatia on Wednesday 31st March.

If the Young Lions successfully navigate the group they will return to Slovenia to start their knockout stage campaign back in Slovenia on Monday May 31st.

Cherries head coach Jonathan Woodgate spoke about Kelly and wished him well for the tournament.

"I'm really pleased for Lloyd," he said. "He's done really well. He's a Rolls Royce type of player though he does still need to brush up on things that can improve his game. I'm sure that will come with age.

"He wants to learn, he listens and he's done well since I've been here.

"Hopefully he has a good time with England in these European Championships."
