Asmir Begovic kept a clean sheet as one of a number of AFC Bournemouth players looked to press their nations' claims for competition berths.

Europe

Bosnia and Herzegovina bounced back from their Cyprus defeat last week by putting four past Gibraltar away from home, Asmir Begovic keeping a clean sheet in the 4-0 win.

Norway's faint hopes of World Cup qualification were extinguished by world champions Germany. Joshua King played 90 minutes in Stuttgart but was unable to get on the scoresheet in the 6-0 away defeat.

After starting in Georgia, Harry Arter dropped to the bench for the Republic of Ireland's home qualifier with Serbia, watching on in Dublin as his side lost 1-0 to Serbia.

Africa and Asia

Benik Afobe stayed on the bench as his DR Congo side drew 2-2 with Tunisia in Kinshasa.

Similarly, Brad Smith was an unused substitute for Australia, who beat Thailand 2-1 to make it to the play-offs for the final AFC qualifying spot. The Socceroos are now set to face Syria over two legs in October for a place in Russia next summer.

Under-21s

Lewis Cook started for the Young Lions at Vitality Stadium, playing well in the centre of midfield as England cruised to a 3-0 win over Latvia in front of a good crowd in Dorset.

Lys Mousset came on in the 57th minute for the France under-21 side, who comfortably beat Kazakhstan 4-1 in European Under-21 Championship qualifying.
