Fraser scoops double at Player Awards Evening

Ryan Fraser took centre stage as AFC Bournemouth celebrated the 2018/19 campaign at their annual player awards ceremony last night.

Fraser, the club’s newly-crowned Supporters’ Player of the Year, added the prestigious Players’ Player of the Year to his impressive collection of trophies.

Hosted by Kris Temple and Laura Woods, the awards evening was held in the Purbeck Hall at the Bournemouth International Centre and was sponsored by Strategic Solutions and Westover Group.

Callum Wilson, who was also shortlisted for the Players’ Player of the Year award along with Nathan Ake and David Brooks, picked up the Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals.

Jefferson Lerma claimed the Goal of the Season for his stunning strike away at Crystal Palace on the final day.

Ake, who enjoyed another fine season as the Cherries ensured a fifth consecutive year in the top flight, was named Community Player of the Year.

Academy awards went to Sam Surridge (Under-21 Player of the Year) and Jake Scrimshaw (Under-18 Player of the Year), while Meg Vella won the Women’s Player of the Year award.

Surridge, 20, enjoyed a season to remember after impressing during a fruitful loan spell with Oldham Athletic and then making his Premier League debut at Arsenal in February.

Scrimshaw, 18, topped the goalscoring charts for the club’s under-18s, his exploits helping them reach the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup for only the second time in the club’s history.

And winger Vella, a communications engineer in the army, capped her first full season at the club by finishing as one of the leading goalscorers for the women’s team.

The ceremony also recognised the efforts of Alice Jeans - PA to chief executive Neill Blake and chairman Jeff Mostyn - who won the John Harriss Unsung Hero award.
