AFC Bournemouth has donated food prepared for the postponed fixture with Nottingham Forest to local charities.
The fixture, which was due to take place yesterday evening, was postponed following structural damage to Vitality Stadium caused by Storm Eunice.
Nearly 600 pies and 2000 rolls and baguettes were donated to Hope for Food, while all the players’ post-match food was donated to the local YMCA.
Hope for Food are a Bournemouth-based organisation set-up and run entirely by volunteers with the aim to provide life’s basic essentials on a day-to-day basis to people in need. They supply food, toiletries, clothing, bedding and small household items.
The organisation was selected as one of the club’s four charity partners for the 2021/22 season, following a vote by four key parts of the club: supporters, Junior Cherries, AFC Business and staff.
The chosen charities receive support from the club throughout the season, including profile raising player appearances, signed merchandise and club media support. This will continue throughout the 2022/23 season, allowing more time for support and collaboration.
Meanwhile, YMCA are the oldest and largest youth charity in the world and have been working in Dorset for 140 years to provide local services and projects that give children, young people and vulnerable individuals hope for a better future.
Paul Fudge, AFC Bournemouth’s head of catering operations, told afcb.co.uk: “As a community-centred football club we felt it was important that the food prepared for last night’s fixture found a home.
“I’d like to thank the staff within the club, as well as those at Hope for Food and YMCA, for being able to mobilise quickly to ensure that this food didn’t go to waste and was able to reach those in need.
“This highlights the good work that comes from our relationships with our valued club charity partners, and we can’t praise both organisations enough for the work they do within the local community.”
