Foley completes FC Lorient acquisition

AFC Bournemouth chairman Bill Foley and Black Knight Football Club has acquired a significant minority ownership interest in French side, FC Lorient.

The investment in the Ligue 1 side advances Foley’s multi-club ownership strategy, which began with the takeover of the Cherries in December, and the agreement provides the opportunity to invest additional capital after this season.

Lorient are currently enjoying a tremendous season in Ligue 1, sitting in sixth position after 18 games, harbouring hopes of European qualification. They’ve played 13 of their last 16 seasons in France’s top flight and have a track record of bringing quality players through the academy system.

In a statement confirming the acquisition, Foley said: “We are excited to announce a strategic partnership and investment in FC Lorient today.

“Loïc Fery has successfully built a best-in-class football club and will be a great partner as we build BKFE into a leading multi-club football operator. I look forward to partnering with Loïc and his team to accelerate the success of FC Lorient and BKFE.”
