Defoe wins Premier League Goal of the Month

Jermain Defoe has won the Carling Premier League Goal of the Month award for December.

The 35-year-old's lobbed effort against Crystal Palace earlier in the month was enough to secure the award, as he latched onto Lewis Cook's long ball to strike over Julian Speroni from an acute angle for his second of the game.

Defoe beat off competition from the likes of Mo Salah, Mesut Ozil and Phillipe Coutinho, whilst Abdoulaye Doucoure, Jordan Ayew, Steven Defour and Danny Drinkwater were also nominated.

The striker's award marks the second time that a Cherries player has picked up the accolade, with Charlie Daniels' wonder strike against Manchester City winning August's competition.
