AFC Bournemouth can confirm that long-serving defender Charlie Daniels has joined League One side Shrewsbury Town on a short-term contract.
The 34-year-old, who made 265 appearances in all competitions – scoring 17 goals – during nine years at the club, had been training at Vitality Stadium following the expiry of his contract in the summer.
After two serious knee injuries and having completed his treatment and rehabilitation with the Cherries, Daniels will now look to gain regular, competitive game time with the Shrews.
The left-back leaves as an AFC Bournemouth legend, after playing a pivotal role in the club’s rise through the divisions to spend five years in the Premier League.
Arriving in Dorset in November 2011 from Leyton Orient, initially on loan, Daniels quickly established himself in the Cherries’ rearguard and the move was made permanent just two months later.
A regular in the League One promotion-winning side of 2012/13 and the Championship title winners of 2014/15, Daniels formed an outstanding partnership with Marc Pugh down the left flank.
And he carried that form into the Premier League, proving he was more than capable of performing at the highest level – netting goals against Chelsea, Newcastle, West Brom, Norwich, and a goal of the season contender against Manchester City in the process.
However, suffering dislocations of both knees in the space of less than five months restricted Daniels to just two first team appearances since March 2019.

“With every promotion, Charlie stepped up another level and was a consistent, outstanding performer and the model professional.
“It is emotional to see another member of that iconic team leave the club but following the injuries he has suffered over the past 18 months, Charlie needs regular game time at a strong level, and I’m delighted that this contract at Shrewsbury Town will allow him to gain that.”
