AFC Bournemouth has been nominated for an award at the Football v Homophobia Awards in the Professional Game category.
The awards, which will be held at Altrincham Football Club next month, will be celebrating the dedication, passion and drive of clubs, fan groups and individuals who work to make football a more welcoming place for LGBT people.
The Professional Game Award recognises professional football clubs who have shown dedication to improving the landscape of football for LGBT people and who have worked in numerous ways to create better inclusion and participation of LGBT people at all levels of football.
Lou Englefield, Campaign Director at Football v Homophobia, said “to be shortlisted in the Professional Game category is testament to the work of AFC Bournemouth and its supporters to make the game inclusive and welcoming of everyone.”
“We would like to extend our congratulations to the club and its community.”
The club’s nomination references its “phenomenal” work over the past season, mentioning the use of inclusive terminology, the Everyone Together campaign, involvement in Bournemouth Pride and the hosting of LGBT-focused events at Vitality Stadium.
Praise was given for making LGBT inclusion a priority at all levels, from the Chairman to members of staff, with a particular mention to the work of equality partnerships executive Ben Abberstein.
The club are recognising LGBT History Month at the game against Aston Villa this weekend.
