AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth are saddened to learn of the passing of Fred Davies at the age of 81, the club's former goalkeeper who won promotion with the Cherries in the early 1970s.
The Liverpool-born 'keeper began his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, moving to Cardiff City for two seasons before linking up with the Cherries in 1970.
A key member of John Bond's side as the Cherries clinched their first ever promotion with ascension from the Fourth Division in 1970/71, Davies would make 134 league appearances for the club before retiring in 1974.
As a coach he would link up with Bond again at Norwich City before backroom spells with Swansea City and Shrewsbury Town, the latter becoming a management role in 1994 after a stint as caretaker.
While with the Shrews Davies won the Third Division title as well as earning a trip to Wembley for the side in the Auto Windscreens Shield.
Davies returned to the south coast and managed Weymouth between 1997 and 1999, winning the Southern Premier League during the spell.
