AFC Bournemouth are saddened to hear of the passing of former central defender Jimmy White.
Born in Parkstone, Jimmy enjoyed a successful playing career, where he became the Cherries’ youngest ever league debutant aged just 15 years and 321 days – a record that still stands today.
An ex-England youth international, Jimmy enjoyed two spells at Vitality Stadium – the second of which saw him star as the Cherries took Liverpool to an FA Cup replay in 1967/68, as well as playing in the side that famously beat Sheffield Wednesday in the 1969/70 League Cup second round.
Jimmy made over 170 appearances for the club before becoming manager/coach of King’s Lynn, Cambridge City, Chatteris Town, Histon and finnish side TP Sienejuki.
Jimmy always talked fondly of his two spells with the club, proudly showing photos of his time with the Cherries in his room at the Hospice where he spent the last three weeks of his life.
Everyone associated with AFC Bournemouth sends their deepest condolences to Jimmy’s family and close friends at this sad time.
The funeral is to be held at Cambridge Crematorium, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge CB3 0JJ on Wednesday 9th August at 12pm, with Jimmy's family happy for anyone who wishes to attend to do so.
