AFC Bournemouth quartet Ryan Christie, Chris Mepham, Jefferson Lerma and Orjan Nyland will be hoping to keep alive their chances of reaching the World Cup finals over the international break.

Qualifying for Qatar in 2022 continues during the next few days and Christie (Scotland), Mepham (Wales) and Nyland (Norway) will be looking to progress from their respective groups in Europe.

For Colombia’s Lerma, qualifiers in the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) group have been extended through to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Defender Mepham will be hoping to help Wales reach a first World Cup finals since 1958 when they host Group E rivals Belarus and table-toppers Belgium at Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales are third on goal difference behind Czech Republic but have a game in hand on the Czechs who complete their qualifying campaign against Estonia in Prague on Tuesday 16th November.

Success in the Nations League means Wales are almost certainly guaranteed a play-off place, but finishing as runners-up would, theoretically, provide a more favourable draw.

Christie will be aiming to help Scotland qualify for a first World Cup finals since 1998, although the winger is suspended for the first of their two games against Moldova on Friday 12th November.

Victory in Chisinau would seal second place behind Denmark, while if Scotland were to draw and Israel failed to beat Austria, that would also be enough to see Steve Clarke’s men finish second.

Defeat for the Scots, who have had four straight wins since losing to the Danes in Copenhagen, would see their hopes of clinching second place come down to their home match with Denmark on Monday 15th November.

Goalkeeper Nyland could be involved in another potential last-day decider when Norway face Netherlands in Group G in Rotterdam.

Norway trail the Oranje by two points with two matches to play and will be hoping to overcome Latvia in Oslo on Saturday 13th November to set up a mouth-watering finale.

Midfielder Lerma will be looking to help Colombia pick up some valuable points when they face Brazil in Sao Paulo on Friday 12th November before hosting Paraguay in Barranquilla four days later.

With the top four qualifying directly for the finals and the fifth-place team going into an intercontinental play-off, Colombia are currently fourth with six games remaining.

Goalkeeper Mark Travers will be keen to win more caps for Republic of Ireland when they host Portugal in Dublin on Thursday 11th November and face Luxembourg in the Stade de Luxembourg three days later.

The Boys in Green are currently fourth in Group A with just one win from six games and cannot make it to Qatar.

Midfielder Gavin Kilkenny will be hoping to help Republic of Ireland boost their 2023 Under-21 European Championship qualifying campaign when they host Group F top two Sweden and Italy.

Fourth-placed Ireland take on second-placed Italy at Shamrock Rovers’s Tallaght Stadium on Friday 12th November before hosting Sweden at the same venue four days later.

Morgan Rogers, who is on loan to the Cherries from Manchester City, will be keen for more match action when England under-20s meet Portugal in a friendly on Thursday 11th November.

And academy player Ollie Camis will be hoping to feature for Wales in European Under-17 Championship 2022 qualifiers against Portugal, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
