Cherries lift spirits with community calls

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Recent weeks have seen Cherries heroes reach out and provide support to Bournemouth fans during lockdown.

Eddie Howe, Lewis Cook, Chris Mepham, Steve Cook, Charlie Daniels, Aaron Ramsdale and Steve Fletcher have been among the players old and new who have taken the time to put in calls to fans who are classed as vulnerable or have been appreciative of support during the ongoing pandemic.

Club staff from the ticket office have also been busy calling supporters, talking to them about their time following the club as well as asking them tricky quiz questions to test their Cherries knowledge, with club historian Neil Vacher and Neil Perrett from the media team setting the questions.

So far, nearly 3,000 calls have been made at an average of 600 calls a week, with the quizzes proving especially enjoyable, with some fans talking of swatting up for the new Wednesday challenges each week.

The club's goal has been to reach out to its vulnerable and socially isolated supporters affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other fans particularly impacted by the difficult current circumstances.

These phone calls are ongoing, if you receive a call and are unsure whether it is AFC Bournemouth making the call, please ask the caller for your Supporter Number, which they will have to hand and be able to recite back to you.

The club have asked supporters to note that no payment will ever be taken on these calls and no personal data will be asked for, either.
