Brennan Camp was named sponsors’ man of the match as Weymouth battled out a 1-1 draw with National South rivals Dulwich Hamlet at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Camp lined up alongside Cherries team-mate Shaun Hobson and Stephane Zubar in the Terras backline and turned in an impressive display.
His early shout for a penalty fell on deaf ears after he had been brought down in the box before former Weymouth man Lionel Ainsworth opened the scoring for Dulwich in the 16th minute.
Jake McCarthy’s stunning strike two minutes before the break restored parity and Hobson went close to grabbing a winner 20 minutes from time when his shot was deflected for a corner.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Harry Arter continued his comeback from injury with a substitute appearance in Fulham’s narrow 1-0 win over Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.
Arter replaced Cottagers goal hero Ivan Cavaleiro four minutes from time for his first taste of league action since October 19th.
The 30-year-old, who had been sidelined by a calf injury, netted a stunning winner in Fulham’s FA Cup third-round victory over Aston Villa on his return seven days previously.
Cavaleiro scored the only goal in the 29th minute against the Tigers as Scott Parker’s team closed the cap on the automatic promotion places to seven points.
LEAGUE ONE
Nnamdi Ofoborh was an unused substitute as Wycombe Wanderers surrendered pole position after going down 4-0 against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Chris Maguire’s double and goals from Charlie Wyke and Denver Hume condemned the Chairboys to a fourth defeat in five league games.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE SOUTH
Cameron Plain played a starring role in Wimborne Town’s 2-0 win over Blackfield & Langley – and denied his Cherries team-mate Tom Hanfrey a debut goal for the Watersiders.
Goalkeeper Plain made a series of fine saves, including a top-drawer stop to keep out Hanfrey’s venomous effort in the second half.
Described as “a moment to savour” in the match report on the Wimborne official website, Plain’s save preserved their lead after Sam Poole had netted against his former club six minutes before half-time.
The report added: “Blackfield’s left-back Tom Hanfrey strode forward majestically and unleashed a wind-assisted thunderbolt from 25 yards. The flying Plain somehow tipped the top corner-bound shot over the bar.”
Sam Davidson blocked another Hanfrey piledriver after Antonio Diaz had doubled the Magpies’ lead in the 70th minute.
Luke Pardoe made his second successive start for Poole Town as they toppled leaders Tiverton Town at Ladysmead.
Will Spetch’s stunning strike after 32 minutes settled the issue in favour of the visitors as they gained revenge for an incident-packed defeat by Tivvy in August.
Pardoe, who has made five appearances since joining the Dolphins before Christmas, was denied his first goal for the club when Rhys Lovett made a fine save to thwart him.
He was replaced by Billy Maybury three minutes from time having played his part as Poole recorded back-to-back wins.
Jack Torniainen came off the bench in the second half as Dorchester Town suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of high-flying Truro City at the Avenue Stadium.
Torniainen, who was named man of the match after scoring in Dorchester’s midweek win over Wimborne in the Dorset Senior Cup, replaced Ben Rowthorn in the 55th minute.
He came on just two minutes after Truro had doubled their lead and played his part as goals from Sean Wright and Tom Bath ultimately proved in vain for the hosts.
