Billing watches on for Eriksen's dream return

Philip Billing was an unused substitute as Denmark were defeated by Netherlands in a memorable friendly in Amsterdam yesterday.

The Cherries midfielder, who has made one appearance for his national team, watched on as Christian Eriksen took the headlines as he capped his fairy-tale return to international duty with a goal, just nine months after he suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

The game had a real Bournemouth influence on it as former defender Nathan Ake headed home from close range for Netherlands’s second goal while former winger Arnaut Danjuma came on as a late substitute.

Meanwhile, in Slovenia, Ollie Camis started for Wales under-17s in a difficult defeat to Turkey.

The under-18s shot stopper was on the bench for the 5-0 defeat to Slovenia on Wednesday but was brought in as Wales looked to respond with a positive performance.

However, despite scoring twice, Wales conceded five times to end their hopes of qualifying from group 7 of the Elite Round of UEFA Under-17 Championship qualifying.

First-team goalkeeper Mark Travers was due to be involved on Saturday as Republic of Ireland took on Belgium at Aviva Stadium but withdrew from the squad through injury earlier in the week.
