AFC Bournemouth’s Australian supporters will gather in the name of charity next week, with a seven-a-side football tournament taking place in New South Wales.
Despite only being the third edition of the tournament, at least 100 players and spectators are due to attend, with co-organisers Tim Watt and Nick Goodwin further expanding the number of participating teams from four last time out to five this year.
The event’s main aim is to support a good cause and this year the two New South Wales-based AFC Bournemouth supporters clubs (Central Coast and Sydney) decided to help raise funds for local Central Coast mother of two Amanda Peer in her family’s battle to prevent her from reaching Stage 4 Melanoma Cancer.
Tim Watt, founder of the Central Coast Supporters’ Group sums up the purpose of this year’s tournament.
“The Community Cup is about bringing people together to play football, have some fun and in the spirit of AFC Bournemouth as a community club, and to try and do something positive for the community we live in,” he began.
“We are trying to do our bit to help Amanda who has recently undergone surgery to remove a number of tumours, but now has to find $70,000 for a life-saving drug treatment.
“The family are trying to keep their head above water but with just one household income, mortgage repayments and living expenses, it is next to impossible to raise the money”.
Funds collected from the football tournament that takes place at Football Grounds in Erina will be added to those generated from a Gala Dinner being held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Terrigal that same night.

There is also a post-tournament get-together at Sidelines Sports Grill from 10pm, with football supporters joining together for the televised Premier League match between Watford vs AFC Bournemouth at 11:30pm.
