Ake makes club-record City move

Nathan Ake has completed a move to Manchester City for a club-record undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old Dutch international has put pen-to-paper at the Etihad Stadium, where he will link up with the four-time Premier League champions.

Ake joined the Cherries from Chelsea in June 2016, initially on loan, and made such a positive impression in Dorset that he signed permanently the following summer.

During his time at Vitality Stadium, Ake made 121 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals including memorable winners against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, and swept the board of the end of season awards in 2018.

“Nathan has been an integral part of the club’s success in recent years and I cannot speak highly enough of him,” explained AFC Bournemouth chief executive, Neill Blake.

“Not only has he been outstanding on the pitch for us, but he has also been a fantastic servant and a model professional.

“Losing your best players is never easy but Nathan fully deserves this move and he leaves with our best wishes. We are delighted that this will give him the opportunity to showcase his talents at the very highest level.

“As a club, we look to recruit young, talented players with potential, and Nathan’s move illustrates that AFC Bournemouth can provide a pathway to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
