AFC Bournemouth third in Football v Homophobia award

AFC Bournemouth has finished in third place in the Football v Homophobia awards held in Manchester on Friday evening.

Only Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic finished above the Cherries for work promoting an inclusive environment for LGBT+ people within the professional game.

This was the first ever awards held by Football v Homophobia, introduced to celebrate 10 years of campaigning.

The club were nominated for its “phenomenal” work over the past season, with the use of inclusive terminology, the Everyone Together campaign, involvement in Bournemouth Pride and the hosting of LGBT-focused events at Vitality Stadium earning particular praise.

LGBT inclusion is a priority at all levels, from the Chairman to members of staff, and equality partnerships executive Ben Abberstein earned a mention for his work.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the winners on the night from all levels of the game and praise them for their work.
