Wilshere: We’re getting stronger with each game

In a closely-contested affair, the Cherries held high-flying Tottenham Hotspur to an entertaining goalless draw at Vitality Stadium at the weekend.

Wilshere and his team-mates have suffered just one defeat in their previous eight Premier League outings, with the on-loan midfielder encouraged by the Cherries’ recent performances.

He told afcb.co.uk: “We’re playing well as a collective and there’s a real excitement amongst the players heading into each game. The confidence is high and we fancy ourselves to get a result against anybody in the league right now.

“When we play the top teams we know that sometimes you have to lift yourself up another level and put in performances that are special and I thought we did that against Tottenham.

“We’re in a good position in the league now and I feel like we’re getting stronger and stronger as each week goes by.”

The game against Tottenham was of extra significance for Wilshere, who for the first time in over two years completed a full 90-minute outing.

He continued: “It’s nice to get the full game. It’ll help me mentally and physically of course. I’m going to feel better for it next week.

“I’m working hard in training but you can’t get that match fitness unless you’re playing games and to play 90 minutes in the Premier League week-in-week-out is hard, especially nowadays as the intensity levels keep going up and up and the speed of the play gets quicker and quicker.

“When you play game by game, you start to get your confidence back and you start to try more things. I feel as though I’m getting my first five yards of power back and when I have that I can do more things with the ball.

“I’m just trying to get back to where I was, enjoying my football, playing week-in-week-out and the game against Spurs was a massive step towards that.”
