AFC Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick has joined Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old is Roberto Di Matteo’s first signing at Villa Park, as the Italian prepares his side for their maiden 2016/17 Championship campaign.

Elphick’s move signals the end of his spell leading AFC Bournemouth through the most successful period in the club’s history.

Since his switch from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2012, the defender has accumulated 145 appearances across three divisions for the Cherries.

He led the club to League One promotion in 2013, before playing almost every minute of league action in the historic 2014/15 Championship title-winning season.

Elphick picked up 12 top-flight appearances for Eddie Howe’s side last term, including a headed goal against Chelsea at Vitality Stadium.

AFC Bournemouth would like to thank Tommy Elphick for his leadership of the club and wish him all the very best for the future.
