AFC Bournemouth women maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-0 win over Portishead on Sunday afternoon.

Lucy Cooper bagged a brace, while there were also goals for fellow forwards Katie James and Shannon Albuery in the Cherries' first away game of the campaign.

In now means that Steve Cuss' side have a maximum of six points from their opening two fixtures, with Moneyfields up next at Ringwood Town on Wednesday evening.

After Sunday's victory, he spoke with afcb.co.uk about his delight at the performance.

"I'm really pleased. It was obviously the first away game of the season and I thought we controlled the game really well," Cuss said.

"The pitch was difficult to play on, they can be quite bumpy at this time of year and the opposition defended in numbers really well from a deep position.

"I'm really pleased with the goals we scored and the amount of chances we created. It was good to have control of the game from the start."

Cuss went on to praise the efforts of his three strikers, who all got on the scoresheet against Portishead and helped the side to another three points.

"Lucy had a big week with her GCSE results this week and then scored two first-half goals probably capped it off. I'm really pleased for her.

"Shannon now has two in two and I'm really pleased for Katie James, who got her first goal of the season.

"It's nice that the goals were shared around a little bit."

The games come thick and fast for the Cherries, who next face Moneyfields on Wednesday night at Ringwood Town.

Cuss and his side will now turn their focus to that one and hope for a good crowd under the lights this week.

"We're back in training tonight, so we'll be back focusing on that game. It's nice to play the evening games under lights and it's something that the players look forward to.

"We know it's part of the National League where we have a number of mid-week matches, so we're looking forward to that one.

"We were really pleased with the attendance against St Austell in our opening game. There was a lot of people who came for the first time to come and look at the teams.

"Hopefully that will continue with the evening match and for future home games as well."

AFC Bournemouth women take on Moneyfields on Wednesday evening at Ringwood Town. Kick-off is 7.45pm and entry, as always, is free!
