AFC Bournemouth Women were back to winning ways after an impressive 3-0 win over Portishead Town on Sunday afternoon.

Katie James and Becki Bath were both on the scoresheet in the first half, while 16-year-old Lucy Cooper sealed the three points late on. 

The victory saw Steve Cuss' side strengthen their grip on second place in the National League table, with two games to go and promotion to step three still a possibility come the end of the month. 

Following the win in Somerset, the Cherries manager shared his thoughts with afcb.co.uk.  

"I was really pleased with the performance," he said.

"It was a difficult game and Portishead do have attacking threats, so I was pleased with the clean sheet. We've talked a lot about the clean sheets and the importance of that in recent weeks. 

"The pitch was difficult to play on and it was really bumpy and hard from the sun we've had during the week, so it was pleasing to have created a number of chances and taken three those. It was a good day all round." 

"It was also nice to see the three strikers each get a goal. They were a constant threat throughout, so for them to each be rewarded was great." 

Cuss went on to discuss the importance of bouncing back after defeat to Cheltenham Town two weeks ago. 

With an exciting end of the season in store, it's all to play for in the league and the upcoming Hampshire Cup Final in two days time. 

"We had a little break after the defeat and then went back into training," he continued. 

"We said to ourselves that we needed to do our part and finish as strongly as we can. It was crucial to get back to winning ways yesterday and we've done that, so we can look forward to the cup final on Wednesday. 

"Cup finals are always nice to play in. It's a real challenge against a Portsmouth side playing at a higher level.

"We played each other in the FA Cup earlier in the season. It was a close game on the day and we're looking forward to playing them again this week."
