AFC Bournemouth Women picked up another three points as they climbed the National League table after a 6-0 win against local rivals, Poole Town. 

A brace from Becki Bath saw the Cherries go into half-time with a two-goal advantage, before strikes from Molly Clark, Helen Corbin, Katie James and Abby Jones sealed the win in the final 45 minutes.   

It was also a day to remember for 16-year-old Hannah Hughes, who made her first team debut at Fawcetts Field having come through the youth age groups with the Community Sports Trust.  

After the win, manager Steve Cuss spoke with afcb.co.uk about his team's performance under the lights. 

"I was really pleased," he began.

"I thought the performance was very strong and dominant off the back of not playing for a couple of weeks.

"For us to come back out and play as well as we did was very pleasing. I thought we played very well and created a lot of chances, which we took. 

"The goals have been spread around quite a lot this season, which has been nice.

"Lots of people have been getting on the scoresheet, including Abby from full-back, who got her first goal of the season." 

Cuss continued by praising right-back Jones, who was on the Community Sports Trust's football education programme last season and has since taken up a job as an apprentice with the club. 

"We're very pleased with the whole squad and Abby has made a really good start to the season.

"She's a player that has worked exceptionally hard throughout the summer and has tried to improve her game. She wants to improve so much and that's paying off for her.

"Last night, she created two goals and got herself in some brilliant attacking positions. There was also a really clever finish from her. We're delighted with her progression." 

The manager concluded by expressing his excitement at the upcoming fixture list, which sees three home games in four weeks.  

"September has been a little bit frustrating in terms of the stop-start routine of games.

"There's been various different reasons as to why we haven't had games, but we've now got a pretty full fixture list for October.

"A lot of those games are at home, so we're hopeful that we'll get a few people come down and watch us.

We've been playing well and it's a big game this weekend as we play top of the league. We'd love to get some good support." 

AFC Bournemouth Women take on Cheltenham Town at Potterne Park on Sunday. Kick-off is 2pm and entry is free.
