Women cruise to victory against Poole Town

AFC Bournemouth women closed the gap to league leaders Cheltenham Town with an emphatic 4-0 win over Poole at Potterne Park last night.

Jade Bradley, Becki Bath, Katie James and Lucy Cooper all got on the scoresheet under the lights, with the Cherries now just two points off top spot with a game in hand. 

It was a superb performance from start to finish, Steve Cuss' side now unbeaten in 12 league games and with the best defensive record in the league. 

Following the win, he spoke with afcb.co.uk about the performance and keeping up the pressure during the business end of the season. 

"I'm really pleased tonight and I thought it was a dominant performance," he said.

"It's never easy but Poole certainly defended very well and made it very difficult to break down. 

"I thought our performance in the first half in particular was excellent and I thought the poole goalkeeper did very well for the them - she made some excellent saves. 

"We hit the post a couple of times, but we've come away with four goals and a clean sheet, so it's been an excellent night for us." 

Cuss went on to discuss the variety of goals scored and the value of yet another clean sheet to add to the tally this season. 

"We enjoyed that aspect tonight. We have it within us to score different types of goals like we did out there.

"We can score from crosses, like Abby Jones put in for Katie James. That was a great goal! We also had a couple of decent strikes in there too.

"I'm really pleased we can mix it up and score different types of goals, but we can also take pride in our defensive record.

"The girls don't like letting in goals and we said at half-time that, whatever happens in the second half, we just have to remain professional and make sure we don't concede.

"We couldn't afford to let them back in the game and we didn't, so i'm pleased in that aspect as i'm sure the squad are too."
