AFC Bournemouth women played out a goalless draw with top-of-the-table Cheltenham on Sunday afternoon.

Taking place at Verwood Town, Steve Cuss' side couldn't find the all-important breakthrough but did maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Following the game, the Cherries manager shared his thoughts with afcb.co.uk.

"I was pleased with the performance in terms of keeping a clean sheet," he began.

"That's been important of late and in that final third we just couldn't quite manage to put something together to get that goal that would win the game.

"So we're a little bit disappointed that we couldn't get the three points but, on reflection, the performance was one that we can move forward with.

"On another day, we probably would've got the goal and won the game, but it was a good overall performance.

"It was good to play back at home, we've got a few coming up in October.

"It was definitely good to be back at Verwood and we're looking forward to the next few weeks."

Cuss also commented on the preparation that goes into a game, with the side having stepped up into the National League for the first time this season.

"We do all our planning like we do for every opposition and find out as much as we can.

"Sunday was a challenging game for us. They're top of the league for a reason and defensively they're very strong.

"I felt that we probably dominated the ball and saw plenty of it but we didn't quite manage to find the breakthrough despite finding ourselves in plenty of good positions."

The women are next in action this Sunday as they host Kent Football United in the National League Cup. Head down to Verwood Town for a 2pm kick-off - entry is free!
